Lessons

  1. Choose one lane. Niching raises what you can charge — "social media for real estate agents" sells faster and pays better than "virtual assistant." Good beginner lanes: admin and inbox, customer support, data entry and research, social media scheduling, e-commerce listings, bookkeeping support, and automation and systems — which Module 5 covers and which pays several times the general-admin rate.
  2. Write one headline you will reuse everywhere. Format: [Service] VA for [client type] — [tool], [tool], [tool]. Example: Admin VA for coaches and consultants — inbox, calendar, Canva, client onboarding.
  3. Fix the setup: a working laptop or desktop (not a phone), a stable connection, a backup connection, a headset, and a quiet corner with a plain background. Clients forgive most things except dropping off mid-shift.
  4. Open the accounts: a professional Gmail using your real name, Google Drive, Wise or PayPal for getting paid, and LinkedIn.
  5. Decide your available hours and write them in both Philippine time and US Eastern and Pacific time. Many clients will ask, and fumbling the answer costs you the job.
